From Eme:

Well guys, it's time I said goodbye. Whether or not this club stays up and running is completely Mishi's business now, because as you've seen from the lack of updates.... I'm just not in a place with enough time to deal with this currently. I may or may not be back at some later time... ^_^ But don't stop the lurve. Feel free to drop by my regular dev page anytime you want. I'm going to force myself to keep that updated, at least a little. ^_- Farewell for now, my eggs, and have fun!

They're archaisms. Old words. Like, negro, oriental, social disease, thou, betwixt, groovy and the rest of the words. You don't hear them anymore, because they sound backwards, cumbersome, or just plain old.

Technically, (according to the OED) Orientals is a derogatory word, to put it in the words of an activist, "Rugs are oriental. People aren't."

Although race itself is an arbitrary definition determined by "Civilized people" to distinguish themselves from "Uncivilized people" (which are also arbitrary definitions, a matter of selfish ego), you are completely off topic. The matter at hand is Asian culture.

Secondly, i believe people of Asian descent need to stop trying to assimilate to white culture, and form our own identities, rather than trying to assimilate to the identity of "whiteness" (in the case of Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and other upper-middle class minority groups) or "blackness" (in the case of lower class Asian minority groups, such as the Vietnamese and Filipinos). We have for far too long, allowed other groups determine our racial identity, rather than take control of the situation and determine it for ourselves.

Right, let me see if I have this straight - you are ashamed of being caucasian and thus want to assimilate into an oriental culture? 0_0

God, things like this really annoy me. Look, I have no problems with non-Eureopean cultures (in fact, I draw a lot of my lifestyle from Asain cultures), but when people begin to preach that one culture is better than all the others, especially if they're not even *from* that culture, that is where I draw the line.

If you are self-loathers, please do not try to bring the rest of our race down to your level. I know how effective today's media is in daemonising caucasians and blowing our history way out of proportion (not to mention censoring all of the atrocties other races have committed on us over the years), but self-loathing is not the way to go.

Fellow caucasians - you should be proud of your race and yoru heritage. Orientals, negroes, likewise. This world cannot achieve equality if we all try to be something we're not. Be proud of your own people and tolerant of others - that is all anyone can really ask of you.

I'd just like to say I joined this club to learn more about Japanese culture...I don't hate my race...I definitly don't hate Japan or any country in fact. I'm not sitting here with a kimono on, eating with chopsticks, and reading manga. I'm not trying to be the Japanese stereotype...I'm just trying educate myself on other cultures...it just so happens that Japanese culture interests me a lot right now.

I realize "white" and "yellow" people are the same...I'm not learning how to be Asian...just about Asian culture.

I'd also like to add that I've never called myself an "egg", but the title of this club was not though up by me, now was it?

Interesting how things are going here. I came here through club MTAD before all "you are racist" comments were added. And I am asian, Japanese to be exact, but I found it not offensive at all. ^_^;; Maybe it's because I know few people around me who really likes Japanese culture, and I was use to it.
I myself is happy to see all these people who say they like the Japanese culture. Who wouldn't be when somebody tells you they like your culture?
All I ask is, to really try to understand the culture, not just manga and anime.
I hope this isn't counted as flaming. ^_^;; Anyways, good luck!

    ~kcaisne:iconkcaisne: Jun 23, 2003, 4:05:16 PM
Okay, let me get this straight.

You've got a club celebrating Japanese culture that actual Japanese people can't join, since they don't fit the criteria.

    Wow.
    ~egg-club:iconegg-club: Jun 23, 2003, 1:37:58 PM
Thank you to Eilonnwy. You strike a chord or two, that yeh do.

*chuckle* Obviously, these last commentors don't realize the true purpose of the club. It is NOT to mock or to try and be something we're not--it's merely here to be a unifying factor for people who love and respect Japan and it's people, sometimes wishing they were there.

1-We NEVER said we hate our own race! You shouldn't assume. We merely have a respect for the Japan and it's culture that many others don't posses. We don't see ourselves as higher or lower then anyone else.

2-"Yellow" was just a term we used to put the connection of things into a metaphorical sense. Don't take it as anything more or less.

3-We're not trying to imitate anything. We're just trying to unite people with a love for the same place.

4-We're not acting like anything else. We're still us--no strings.

5-We're not immitating. We're not being intollerant. We're respecting in our own way. In a way that can unite people who're creative and artistic.

I'm sorry you two misread our purpose. And I'm sorry we offend you. I think you're also missing the whole point of the club: To join the lovers of the culture of Japan in DA here in America and other places around the world that happen to be floating around DA. And just a note--YOU'RE being racist when you say "You whites." Hypocritical, eh?

I think all the points I made above would be echoed by our members as well. Please don't take us the wrong way--we love who we are, we merely respect this as well. I think I'll end this with a quote from a friend.

"What we adore about the Japanese is their rich culture, something that we as Americans don't have."
    ~eilonnwy:iconeilonnwy: Jun 23, 2003, 1:09:47 PM
Please, calm down and don't be quick to be offended by something that was not meant to offend.

This club isn't racist, it's just about people who admire a culture so much they wish they were apart of it from the inside out. Is there soemthing terribly wrong with that?

Personally, as an Irish American I would think it was cute if someone wished they were American or Irish because they loved the culture so much.

I would not say this club says you're different from white people making you higher or lower. And they don't hate their own race. It's just admiration for a culture.

What on earth is this? It's not bad enough that you hate your own race, but that you want to be like us? I don't understand you white people, what the hell defines what a "Yellow" person is like anyway?

If you're thinking "The sincerest form of flattery is imitation" then you're flat out wrong. By assuming that you have to be different to begin with in order to become something else is just as racist and insulting as calling us Japanese "Japs" because you play like and assume that we're different than you "White" people to the point where you have to pretend and try to be like us in order to call yourselves "eggs"

I can't believe how awful this is, japanese people are exactly like white people. We're not any different from you, so you shouldn't assume like we are. And that definitely means that you shouldn't be trying to act like us when there's no act to put up except the ones that you assume about us. Learn to be accepting of the japanese, and don't try to imitate them. Because it's the SAME THING as going up to a chinese person and trying to imitate a stupid chinese accent.
    ~mazingo5:iconmazingo5: Jun 22, 2003, 8:56:05 PM
You're all nuts! Honestly...You guys should kinda be careful...I already know a bunch of Japanese people who find this offensive. You may be wondering "Why? We want to be them!" You wouldn't understand. I suggest researching about Japanese history and actually learning something about it. They think it's rude to pose as their race. You can affiliate this with rich suburban caucasion children pretending to be ghetto thugs from the west side. It just is not right.
